Did you know?  The Broughton Log Flume was the last operating log flume in the country? Portions of the original nine-mile flume can be viewed from Highway 14 in east Skamania County in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge.

#1 | Dougan Falls

Located along the scenic Washougal River, Dougan Falls is a popular destination for those seeking natural swimming holes in Washington. The pool at the base of the falls is part of a series of calm, inviting spots within a forested canyon that flows toward the Columbia River. With motorized boats not permitted, the setting remains quiet—ideal for swimming, floating, and relaxing in nature.

Water levels are highest from late fall through spring, offering a stronger flow. By late summer, the river becomes calmer, with wider banks that make access easier for visitors looking for a peaceful riverside experience.

#2 | Curly Creek Falls

Tucked away in the forest north of Carson, Curly Creek Falls is one of the more unique hidden waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge area. After a scenic drive, a short walk leads to this distinctive waterfall, where a natural arch forms between tiers of its 50- to 75-foot drop.

Though smaller in size, its unusual formation and quiet setting make it a memorable stop for those exploring lesser-known Washington waterfalls.

#3 | Falls Creek Falls

Falls Creek Falls is one of the most impressive waterfall hikes in Skamania County, featuring a 250-foot cascade that drops in three dramatic tiers. The 1.7-mile trail is relatively flat, making it a great option for those looking for a family-friendly hike in the Columbia River Gorge.

As you approach, the sound of rushing water builds anticipation before the falls come into view. Surrounded by forest, with open space and flat rocks near the base, it’s an ideal setting to pause, take photos, or enjoy a quiet picnic.

#4 | Panther Creek Falls

Panther Creek Falls is a striking and lesser-known destination among Washington waterfall enthusiasts. Located near the meeting point of Panther and Big Creeks, the falls appear as multiple cascades—each ranging from 50 to 75 feet—flowing together into one basin.

A short and easy walk leads to an observation deck, offering a clear view of this unique formation. While slightly off the beaten path, it’s a rewarding stop for those seeking hidden gems in Skamania County.

#5 | Lower Lewis River Falls

Lower Lewis River Falls is a favorite for visitors looking for easy-access waterfalls in Washington with added amenities. Here, the river spreads wide before cascading over a broad rock formation, creating a powerful and scenic display.

With nearby picnic areas, restrooms, and access to the water, it’s a great destination for family outings, swimming, and summer recreation in the Columbia River Gorge region. The short walk makes it accessible for visitors of all ages.
