Skamania Chamber Makes Government Affairs A Priority

Skamania County, Wash. – “Representing the interest of business with government.”  This was seen to be a high priority amongst Skamania County Chamber of Commerce members in response to a recent needs assessment survey.  With that clear direction, the Chamber Board made advocating for local businesses a primary focus of their 2022 strategic plan.

Beginning in January of this year, a newly organized Government Affairs Task Force began working to create the Chamber’s Government Affairs program.  With policies and procedures formed, a legislative platform set, webpage designed and Council members seated, the next step was to get involved.  Because of legislative re-districting, Skamania County voters will be choosing new State Representatives, so hosting a Candidate’s Forum was seen to be a natural place to begin.

The Skamania County Chamber of Commerce Candidates Forum will be held at Rock Creek Hegewald Center on October 11 beginning at 6:00 pm.  It will include four races; Sheriff, PUD Commissioner Dist. 2, County Commissioner Dist. 3, State Representative positions 1 and 2.  In keeping with the Chamber’s objective to advocate for policies that support business growth and development and promote a business friendly environment, the public was invited to submit questions for the candidates relative to business issues and concerns.

“We are looking forward to our first Candidates Forum” said Chamber Executive Director, Angie Waiss “and we are excited for our expanded work in advocating for our local business community.  We believe that, through our Government Affairs Program, we will be able to provide substantial added value to our membership.”

Skamania County Chamber of Commerce is a champion for business.  The Chamber support regional prosperity through business promotion, advocacy, collaboration and community connections.   To become a Chamber member, or to learn more about the Chamber’s Government Affairs Program, please visit skamania.org.
